David Bowie documentales Bob Marley and the Wailers - Catch a Fire - Classic albums 1999

Bob Marley's first professional album, Catch a Fire, introduced an enthusiastic international audience to reggae music. In this documentary, the principal collaborators on Catch a Fire recount how the album and its music were created. Featuring an in-depth interview with Wailer percussionist and vocalist Bunny Wailer, as well as archival interviews with Marley and Wailer musician, singer, and composer Peter Tosh ("Peter Mackintosh" on the album),

The documentary reveals that Catch a Fire was conceived as a crossover record. Traveling to London with the eight-track tapes they had recorded in Jamaica, Marley and his band polished the recordings in Basing Street Studios, where they got advice and supervision from Island Records' honcho Chris Blackwell. White American session players like keyboard player John 'Rabbit' Bundrick and guitarist Wayne Perkins) were brought in to sweeten the sound with overdubs intended to please an international audience. Rare home movies of the Wailers in Jamaica, and performance material of tracks like "Stir It Up," "Stop That Train," and "Kinky Reggae" round out the documentary. ~ Steve Blackburn, All Movie Guide

Bob Marley documentales Dream Deceivers - The Story behind of James Vance & Judas Priest

In the summer of 1990, Judas Priest band was involved in a civil action that alleged they were responsible for the self-inflicted gunshot wounds in 1985 of 20-year old James Vance and 18-year old Raymond Belknap in Reno, Nevada, USA.On December 23, 1985 Vance and Belknap, after hours of drinking beer, smoking marijuana and listening to Judas Priest music, went to a playground at a church in Reno with a 12-gauge shotgun to end their lives. Belknap decapitated himself; then Vance followed, but the weapon was very slippery by then and he survived with a grotesquely disfigured face. He died three years later from an overdose of painkillers.

The men's parents and their legal team alleged that a subliminal message of "do it" had been included in the Judas Priest song "Better By You, Better Than Me" from the Stained Class album (actually a cover of a Spooky Tooth number). They alleged the command in the song triggered the suicide attempt. The trial lasted from July 16 to August 24, 1990, when the suit was dismissed. One of the defense witnesses, Dr Timothy E. Moore, wrote an article for Skeptical Inquirer chronicling the trial.

The trial was covered in the 1991 documentary Dream Deceivers: The Story Behind James Vance Vs. Judas Priest. In the documentary Halford commented that, if they wanted to insert subliminal commands in their music, killing their fans would be counterproductive and they would prefer to insert the command "Buy more of our records." Regarding the plaintiff's assertions that the statement "do it" was a command to commit suicide, Halford pointed out "do it" had no direct message.

Napalm Death Factory: Manchester from Joy Division to Happy Mondays (2007)

Factory Records was a Manchester based British independent record label, started in 1978, which featured several prominent musical acts on its roster such as Joy Division, New Order, A Certain Ratio, The Durutti Column, Happy Mondays, and (briefly) James and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Like the label 4AD Records, Factory Records used a creative team (most notably record producer Martin Hannett and graphic designer Peter Saville) which gave the label, and the artists recording for it, a particular sound and image.

The label employed a unique cataloguing system that gave a number not just to its musical releases, but to artwork and other objects.

documentales AC/DC- Let There Be Rock - The Movie - 1980

Released in theaters around the time when AC/DC's popularity was beginning to decrease, Let There Be Rock is a video documentary taken from AC/DC's 1980 Highway to Hell tour with Bon Scott. Although the picture quality leaves much to be desired, the band's raw power remains as they play classics like "Sin City" and "Rocker." Between songs, viewers will also see comments from the band members, adding (or subtracting, depending on the viewer's interest preferences) to the entertainment. Let There Be Rock is a good example of AC/DC's glory days, and is especially recommended for fans of their Bon Scott period.
